The university implements career capability enhancement programs through activities such as the College Student Career Planning Competition, Initial Career Experience, and Career Carnival.

In May 2024, TUT students won 2 bronze medals in the national finals of the first National Career Planning Competition for College Students.

In October 2021, the university was approved by the Ministry of Education as a national training base for graduates’ employment capabilities under the “Central Special Lottery Public Welfare Fund Hongzhi Aiding Program”.

Adhering to the “Integrated Education” philosophy, the university strives to build an education system for innovation and entrepreneurship (I&E) that encourages competition participation. It aims to cultivate outstanding I&E talents who can meet the demands of new quality productive forces.

Proactive measures have been taken to build a “One-stop” I&E incubator, project refinement rooms, project demo halls, as well as centers for entrepreneurial practice, maker cultivation, and cloud-based innovation research.

The university’s makerspace has been recognized by the Torch Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology and named as one of the top 100 college student entrepreneurship promotion spaces nationwide. It has received A-level (excellent) ratings in Tianjin for eight consecutive years.

Students have won over a hundred national awards, including grand prizes and gold medals, in major competitions such as the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, Tiankai Cup, and Challenge Cup, achieving the best results in Tianjin for multiple times.

In June 2024, Lin Huiqing, Vice President of the China Association for Higher Education and former member of the Leading Party Members Group and Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education, visited the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

In May 2024, the finals of the “Tiankai Cup” National College Students Intelligent Science and Technology Innovation Challenge, hosted by TUT, concluded at Tiankai Higher Education Innovation Park. Zhang Ling, Vice Mayor of Tianjin, attended the event and presented the awards.

The university strongly emphasizes fostering students’ innovative spirit and practical abilities.

By establishing a comprehensive system for students’ scientific and technological innovation, the university encourages and supports students to participate in various types of science and technology competitions, as well as a wide range of innovative activities.

Over the years, many students from Tianjin University of Technology have won awards in prestigious competitions such as the “Challenge Cup” National College Students Extracurricular Academic Scientific and Technological Works Competition, the National College Students Mathematical Modeling Competition, and the National College Students Electronic Design Competition.

In November 2024, the project “Green Life Technology - The Pioneer of the Utilization of Industrial Waste Salt Resources” won the gold prize in the 14th “Challenge Cup” Chinese College Students’ Entrepreneurship Competition.

In exploring a model of higher education for deaf college students majoring in technology, the university established China’s first undergraduate-level technical college for the deaf.

It pioneers an inclusive education model characterized by “university-wide participation, interdisciplinary joint training, and integrated learning for students with and without disabilities.”

This innovative educational approach has garnered high praise in the international field of higher special education and has been lauded by Deng Pufang, then-Chairman of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation, as “a pearl on the frontlines of China’s special education.”

In 2018, deaf college students achieved the first-ever credit recognition in China for studying abroad.

In 2023, the first cohort of hearing-impaired master’s degree students graduated from the Technical College for the Deaf.

Deng Pufang’s inscription

The Technical College for the Deaf has made significant strides in improving its teaching quality.

The research project “Establishing Unique Higher Engineering Education for the Deaf ” won the National Second Prize for Outstanding Teaching Achievements and the First Prize for Outstanding Achievements in Tianjin.

The college also hosted the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for College Students with Disabilities, filling a crucial gap in such competitions in China.

Additionally, the university’s hearing-impaired students have clinched top awards in three major national competitions: “Challenge Cup,” “Internet+,” and the National College Students’ Art Exhibition.

In March 2022, the project “Real-time Translation System for Chinese Sign Language in Complex Scenes Based on Contrastive Self-supervised Learning” won the Special Prize at the 17th “Challenge Cup” National College Students Extracurricular Academic Scientific and technological Works Competition. In May of the same year, the Whale Speech Accessibility Intelligent Technology R&D Team was awarded the “Tianjin Youth May 4th Medal for Collectives.”

In October 2021, hearing-impaired students won the Gold Award at the 7th China International “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.

Drawing on the interdisciplinary strengths of its advantageous and distinctive disciplines, the university explores new pathways for the development of technology-enabled accessibility.

In 2019, the Real-time Chinese Sign Language Translation System for Complex Scenes was recognized as a key project under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT)s New Generation Artificial Intelligence Industry Innovation Program. The system provided services for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics through CCTVs Digital Sign Language Person.

In 2023, the university collaborated with the Tianjin Disabled Persons Federation and Huawei to develop the Haihe-Er Yu large-scale sign language understanding model for the deaf.
