I. Program Overview
The Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas) aims to attract outstanding overseas young scholars (including non-Chinese foreign talents) in natural sciences, engineering, and technology to return to or work in China. Selected candidates will independently pursue innovative research in self-selected directions, accelerating the growth of young scientific talent and cultivating future leaders at the forefront of global science and technology, thereby contributing to China’s scientific and technological advancement.
II. Eligibility Criteria
1. Applicants must meet the following requirements:
(1) Adhere to Chinese laws and regulations, uphold academic integrity, and embody the spirit of scientists in the new era.
(2)Date of birth ; January 1,1985,or later.
(3) Hold a doctoral degree.
(4) Research focus in natural sciences, engineering, or related fields.
(5) Between obtaining a doctoral degree and April 15, 2025, applicants should have held a formal teaching or research position at a renowned overseas university, research institution, or corporate R&D division fora minimum of 36 consecutive months of post-doctoral work experience. For exceptional candidates with overseas doctoral degrees, work experience requirements may be flexibly adjusted (excludes joint doctoral training programs).
Note: Concurrent paid positions in China during overseas employment will not count toward the 36-month requirement.
(6) Demonstrate recognized research achievements and potential to become a leading scholar or distinguished talent in their field.
(7) Not yet engaged in full-time work in China, or have returned to China after January 1, 2024. Awardeesare required to relinquish overseas affiliations and commit to full-time employment in China for a minimum of 3 years upon grant acceptance.
2. Restrictions:
Comply with national policies on overlapping scientific talent programs. Applicants may hold only one national talent grant at the same level and may not apply for lower-tier programs.
III. Compensation & Support
National Grant: RMB 1-3 million
Duration: 3 years
