Tianjin University of Technology (TUT) welcomed its incoming class of 2025 at the university stadium on September 17.

The opening ceremony as the national anthem was played. During the event, Academician Wu Yicheng and university leaders pinned the TUT emblem on representatives of the new students. All new students then wore their badges with pride, sharing the joy of officially becoming members of the TUT community.
Zhao Yiduo, a freshman from the College of Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering, said new TUT students should leave their comfort zones, explore interests in clubs and, with faculty guidance, sharpen both technical and personal skills to grow into well-rounded graduates.

Liu Hui, a new Computer Science master’s student, vowed to conduct research that serves China and to become a scientist who turns ideas into real-world tools for modernization.

Jiang Xusen, a junior from the School of Management, urged fellow students to venture into the unknown, carve their own paths, and build real skills through practice—so that their youth contributes to China’s modernization.

Professor Zhang Siwen of the School of Science urged freshmen to be upright, capable, truth-seeking and innovative—then paint their own bright future with youth and hard work.

President Lian Jijian welcomed the freshmen and thanked their parents and faculties. He noted that in 46 years, TUT has become one of the world’s fastest-rising young universities and is now advancing toward “Double First-Class” status, showing what education can contribute to national development.
President Lian offered three wishes:
1.To leave yesterday’s medals behind—step out of your comfort zone, decide why and what to study, and focus single-mindedly on mastering your discipline.
2.To put down deep roots now—aim high and let your own dream grow through thorough coursework, solid experiments, and first-rate theses.
3.To surf the wave of tomorrow—join research teams, spend time in labs, and get field experience so you graduate innovative, resourceful, and ready to create the future.
He reminded the freshmen that every generation must walk its own Long March. Live the TUT motto—“Valuing Virtue and Capacity, Pursuing Truth and Innovation” , face challenges and outdo yourself.

With TUT spirit as their compass, 8,000 newcomers now sail on the rising tide of the times, ready to ink the next chapter of innovation.
