Chinese and Canadian Faculties and Students Unite in Songs, Celebrating Decades of Friendship

On April 28, Trinity Western University (Canada) Choir visited Tianjin University of Technology for a joint concert with our Shanzhige Choirand University Choir. Titled “China-Canada Faculties& Students Music and Cultural Exchange Concert”, the event wove musical dialogues that bridged cultures and shared China’s stories, offering a cross-border artistic feast for the audience. Former University Party Secretary Ma Fuye attended and exchanged gifts with the Canadian delegates.

Ye Ning, Vice President and Member of the University Party Standing Committee, warmly welcomed the visiting delegation. He remarked that music is a universal language that connects people across cultures. The joint performance by Trinity Western University and TUT choirs, featuring classic songs from both nations, celebrated friendship through timeless melodies, showcasing music's unique power as a bridge for cultural exchange.

The concert opened with the vibrant song and dance performance “Anamuhan,” whose lively rhythm and dynamic moves instantly energized the audience. The Trinity Western University Students Choir then delivered a captivating set of three diverse pieces: “My Heart Will Go On,” “Dear One,” and “Ten Thousand Streams of Canada.” Their pure harmonies and unique charm earned resounding applause.

The TUT Students Choir presented beautifully arranged pieces – “What the World Gives Me” and “Sky.” Their heartfelt performance showcased the artistic talent of China’s new generation of university students.

The TUT Shanzhige Choir and Students Choir then collaborated on “Spring Wind Blows Far and Wide,” their soaring melodies conveying three generations’ praise for the new era and aspirations for the Chinese Dream. Over 150 members from the three Chinese and Canadian choirs then took the stage together, delivering powerful renditions of “I Love You, China,” “Red River Valley,” and “Song of the Yangtze River.” The performers connected through every note, while the audience hummed along, merging stage and hall into a sea of joy. A pioneering bilingual arrangement in Chinese and English showcased seamless collaboration between the choirs.

The event concluded with sustained applause. Attendees described being deeply moved by the genuine connection forged through music. This concert—a vibrant fusion of Eastern and Western cultures—marks a new chapter in the universities’ friendship and lays a strong foundation for future Sino-Canadian cultural exchange.
